Homemaking Tips for Bedroom
BEDS
HELP LITTLE ONES TO MAKE A NEAT BED by giving them a lumpy, bumpy bedspread that covers all.  Even if the sheets are not straight, or they leave some wrinkles, they can pull that spread up over it all, and make a neat looking bed.

MAKE YOUR LITTLE GIRL'S BED FANCY enough for a princess by draping a lacey cotton or nylon tablecloth (don't use vinyl or plastic as it is a suffocation hazard) over colored sheets.  So beautiful!

CLOSETS
MY FAVORITE TIP FOR CLOSETS is to get two identical buckets, popcorn tins or wastebaskets, fill with things that you need, but don't look at often, like past years' homeschooling records.  Put one on each side of the top shelf in your closet and lay a long board across the top. Viola! You've instantly doubled your shelf space without needing to use any tools!  If you want to put heavier items on the top shelf, use a brick on each side, instead of the wastebaskets.

IF YOU LIKE THE SMELL OF A CEDAR CHEST, but don't have one, get some cedar wood chips from a lumber store.  Cut the legs off of some old pantihose, and fill with the chips.  Tie a knot and hang up in closet.  If you're the fancy type, tie a ribbon on the end.  Smells just like a cedar chest.

SWEETEN THE SMELL OF YOUR CLOSET  by wetting cotton balls with wintergreen oil (available at drugstores), or perfume.  Put into a baby food jar that has holes poked in the top.  Set on the shelf in your closet, or on the floor if your kids are older.  Be sure to keep out of reach of small children or pets.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS are so annoying to me!  Mine were always coming off of the track, and only being able to open one side at a time made it hard to reach into the back of the closet. We finally removed all of our closet doors entirely!  Our oldest teen put her dresser, complete with animal tanks and lighting, inside half of her closet, and hangs her clothes in the other half.  In the boys' room, we attached a second rod to a dresser fitted into half of the closet, adding hanging space, and adding space in the room by moving the dresser.  In the other two bedrooms, we attached a spring-loaded rod with shower curtains at the top of the closet.   Now we have a solution for everyone, and it's so much easier now.
